Last night we welcomed District Governor Colin Burns to our meeting for his official club visit. So far, including Baldivis, he has visited 46 of the 47 clubs in our District which is amazing considering how many clubs meet on the same night!
Colin gave us an overview of Rotary priorities from Rotary International, President Holger Knaack and District 9465.
Colin gave an overview of each of these areas of priority and noted that the Rotary Club of Baldivis is already working well in all of them. He is particularly keen for clubs to focus on strategic planning and building partnerships with other Rotary clubs, Community groups, Sponsors and Government agencies. This will extend our 'reach' and give the community a better picture of what Rotary actually does.
With District Conference just a few weeks away, Colin also encouraged members to register and attend via the link on the District Website. It will be an amazing weekend and he is keen for as many members as possible to attend. The Conference is joint with our northern District 9455.
Colin was presented with a gift from the club by our President Lukarla and President Elect Trevor.

Rotary International Theme for 2021/2022
Message from Rotary International President Elect Shekhar Mehta
(by Ryan Hyland)
Incoming Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta urged members to become more involved in service projects, saying that caring for and serving others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives, but also our own.
Mehta, a member of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, revealed the 2021-22 presidential theme, Serve to Change Lives, to incoming district governors on 1 February during the Rotary International Assembly. The assembly, a yearly training event for district governors-elect, was originally set to take place in Orlando, Florida, USA, but was held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mehta spoke about how participating in service projects through Rotary changed him as a person and made him empathize more with the needs of others. Soon after joining his club, he helped carry out projects that benefited rural communities in India.
Some of the poor conditions he saw in those communities strengthened his commitment to service. “I truly understood the plight of my brethren,” he said.
Mehta participated in initiatives that brought artificial limbs to children, clean water and sanitation to homes, and better health care facilities to communities.
“Rotary kindled the spark within me to look beyond myself and embrace humanity,” he said. “Service became a way of life for me and I, like many others, adopted the guiding philosophy that ‘Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this earth, and I want to be a good tenant of this earth.’”
Mehta encouraged district governors-elect to lead by example during their term and inspire Rotary and Rotaract members to participate in projects that have measurable and sustainable impacts. He’s asking each club to conduct a Rotary Day of Service.
“At the end of your term as district governor, you should feel that because of your leadership, because of your inspiration to Rotarians and Rotaractors, the world has changed for the better because of the service done by them during the year,” he said.

International Women's Day 2021 - Choose to Challenge
Strike the #ChooseToChallenge pose
Raise your hand assertively and show that you choose to challenge inequity.
Show your solidarity in choosing to challenge and call out aspects that are unhelpful to women.
Will you raise your hand high and pledge to #ChooseToChallenge?
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
The theme for IWD 2021 is 'Choose to Challenge';
A challenged world is an alert world.
And from challenge comes change.
So choose to challenge!
SOLD OUT!
Thanks for your fabulous support of this event.
Stories from our Rotary world
Virtual tour of One Rotary Center shines
Vision Statement display and seating area in the west atrium on the 18th floor of Rotary International World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA.
By Bruce Baumberger, 2010-11 governor of District 6440 (northern Illinois, USA)
As one of the two Rotary clubs normally conducting club meetings at One Rotary Center in Evanston, Illinois, USA, members of the Rotary Club of Evanston Lighthouse were touched by General Secretary John Hewko’s inspirational tour of Rotary World Headquarters. Seeing Room 711, the location of the first Rotary meeting, was a reminder that club members later this year will once again walk by it on our way to club meetings, just as we did prior to the pandemic.
Stories of Impact display in the west atrium on the 18th floor.
The tour of the 17th and 18th floors of Rotary’s World Headquarters showed us that the nerve center of Rotary International is ready to welcome Rotarians from around the world. The opportunity to see One Rotary Center virtually is a wonderful way to learn the value of an in-person tour (once conditions again allow it) for every Rotarian when they are in the Chicago area.
I recommend that every club show the video at their club meetings. It’s a great way to remind members about the fantastic work that we do around the world. Members of both the Evanston Lighthouse club and the Rotary Club of Evanston are excited about returning to in person meetings at the right time and welcoming our Rotary friends from around the world.
